Portrait of Alyson StanfieldHi, I’m Alyson Stanfield.

For 10 years, I served as a museum curator and educator in three different art museums.

That was a long time ago! But it has informed much of what I do – especially when I help artists (you!) relate to potential collectors and new audiences.

I understand how people look at and appreciate your art. This understanding is the cornerstone of what you will learn in Magnetic You.

Magnetic You program for artists

My goal for the work you do in Magnetic You is that …

You commit to the time and process for developing your Magnetic You Package.

You are more confident in how you present your art to the world.

You have the right words ready to promote your art.

What you’ll implement in the 6 modules of Magnetic You

#1Own Your Story

Owning your story is owning your destiny.

  • Commit to a habit of collecting words for describing your art and telling your story.
  • Create a system for capturing your stories for when you need them.
  • Begin the process of collecting words using writing prompts.

#2Write Your Artist Statement

You might already have a statement, but this is one of the most critical tools in your marketing arsenal. You should be regularly rewriting and polishing the words you use to describe your art.

Following the lesson webinar, you’ll receive daily prompts to get you thinking on a deeper level about the meaning and message of your art. Then I’ll give you guidance for writing a draft of your artist statement or rewriting the one you currently have.

You’re encouraged to trade writing with classmates.

#3Refresh Your Resume, Bio, and About Page

Your art might be untouchable in terms of quality. And, you might have no fear when it comes to sharing it with people. But you must have words to back you up. Here’s what we’ll cover in module 3:

  • Update your résumé by completing an easy and reusable template.
  • Improve your bio by using stories to differentiate yourself.

This lesson includes résumé templates for both teaching and exhibiting artists.

#4Clarify Your Brand/Image

If you’ve taken an art history class, you had to memorize plenty of names and images. You understand how important it is for people to relate your name and the art you make. In module 4, you’ll:

  • Establish two or three words that define your brand.
  • Decide on your professional artist name or business name, if that is in question.
  • Develop a visual style sheet for promoting your brand across print or digital platforms.
#5

Engage Your Audience

When you are successful, people expect you to be confident and articulate about your art. I will teach you how to engage others in conversations about your art – techniques that I learned and developed in my previous positions as a museum curator and educator.

  • Use questioning strategies to connect people to your art.
  • Program your show – live and online – to engage visitors.
  • How to attract more engagement on social media.
#6

Finish Your Stories

You’re going to be doing a lot of writing in this class and, honestly, your stories will never be finished. But you do need to get them to a point where you’re confident in sharing them.

  • Polish your writing during the editing process (my best tricks),
  • How to proofread your writing – even if you don’t have another set of eyes to review it.

Paula Christen ArtAfter years of showing my work locally, I’m stepping out of my comfort zone, contacting galleries in other areas for representation. Of course, they asked for an artist bio and résumé. Using your tips as a guide, I was able to create an authentic, interesting bio and list of exhibits.

I feel confident in my art and my credentials presentation with your help.

Here’s how the lessons are delivered in Magnetic You! …

1 6 In-Depth Live Webinars and Q&A
I personally coach you on each module in a live webinar, also available as a recording on-demand and ready for you at a time that works with your schedule. I teach you what I have learned in my fifteen years of helping artists build their careers. You’ll complete assignments and simple worksheets that will be used as building blocks to help you succeed.
2 Written Transcripts of All Lessons
We learn differently when we read than when we listen. I want to make sure you know this stuff inside and out, so I’m providing the lessons in written form as well as audio and video.

3 System Worksheets
The worksheets I’ve created for each lesson will help you customize the content for your situation. The completed worksheets contribute to your personalized Art Career Success System.

4 Interaction with Your Magnetic Peers
Membership into a private Facebook group with your classmates. This is where you can ask questions, celebrate progress, and share resources with one another.

In Magnetic You, students will be encouraged to trade writing with other students for feedback.

Bonus #1

Visual Style Guide
A directory for storing font styles, colors, and other guidelines for all of your marketing material.

Bonus #2

Promotional Material Checklist
A comprehensive list of every printed or digital piece you might create to promote your art.
