Thank you for attending an I'd Rather Be in the Studio! workshop

Here are some things I promised you and more. To save the PDF files to your computer, right click (option+click on a Mac) and select "Save As." Pay attention to where you file it.

Note: Much of this is in my book or in your handouts and expanded on there

Need help with staying on track?
The Blast Off! class begins in January 2010

read about it here

  1. The 6 Principles of No-Excuse Self-Promotion (poster, PDF file)
  2. The No-Excuses Oath (poster, PDF file)
  3. Can Your Social Networking Profile Pass the 10-Second Test? This was a teleseminar I enrolled in, which gave me some good tips (the link is an affiliate link). It's important that your profile is short, pithy, and social. You'll want to mention your art, but you also want to be human. Say something that can't be applied to every other artist in your media. You're probably more interesting than you think!
  4. A link to artist database software from a post on my blog.
  5. A good resource to have bookmarked: Professional Guidelines from the Society of North American Goldsmiths.
  6. Join with other artists and support each other with a marketing plan. To get a free plan and guidelines for forming your group, visit http://www.artbizconnection.com.
  7. Know the CAN SPAM laws for sending business email.
  8. Some books I recommend:
    1. Twyla Tharp's The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It for Life
    2. Jack Canfield's
    3. The Success Principles(TM): How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be
    4. Richard Polsky's I Bought Andy Warhol
    5. David Meerman Scott's The New Rules of Marketing & PR
    6. *** Every artist should read this -->Peggy Klaus's Brag!: The Art of Tooting Your Own Horn without Blowing It (I'm hosting a free teleseminar with Peggy on June 11. To sign up, visit this page.)
  9. Blogs! If you'd like to know more about blogs, here are some resources:
    1. Listen to this interview I did with artist Margret Short about her blog.
    2. Blogging programs: TypePad, Blogger (aka Blogspot by Google), WordPress.org and WordPress.com.
    3. A list of wonderful artist blogs are posted here and here on my blog (read the comments to find more!).
  10. Check out these inexpensive printing companies (again, read the comments to find more resources).
  11. Every artist needs The Legal Guide for the Visual Artist by Tad Crawford and Allworth Press. It's full of contract samples and sound legal advice.
  12. If you like to listen instead of reading, go here for my free podcasts.

I think that's it. Thank you again for letting me share the day (or days!) with you.
