What if you had a system in place
to help you take the guesswork out of
building a successful art career?

If you’re like so many artists I know, you’re winging it.
You try this and that in hopes that something will pay off, but you find
it difficult to create the habits and systems that can
sustain your career over a long period of time.

I have identified the most important aspects of a successful artist’s career
and have packaged them into a 5-month intensive study that includes
live interaction, group support, and loads of accountability.

The Art Career Success System begins August 8!

Galleries weren’t even on my radar until the lessons, which I followed and was successful in scheduling a gallery show for next year.
After 35 years of practicing dentistry, I gave notice to the office where I practice. With the encouragement and support of my partner and the knowledge and empowerment from mentors like you, Alyson, I feel liberated and more confident than ever to create the art that’s in my heart.
You display a depth of understanding that comes from years of working with artists, and really listening to and observing the nuances of the creative process. You are a gifted, skilled educator and I am grateful, once again, to benefit from your talents.

Do you get quickly discouraged if you try something new and it doesn’t produce instant results?

Are you easily distracted by all of the ideas you find online or hear about from other artists?
Are you losing focus of your priorities and jumping to new “tricks” before you consider how they fit with your goals?

Do you find it difficult to set goals and stick with them?

Are you managing your business whenever you feel like it (or, worse, not at all)?

If you answered Yes to 2 or more of these, the Art Career Success System is for you.

In the Art Career Success System, you will …
ABLO-SP_5-YellowCheckmark Devote the time to working ON your business rather than being busy IN your business.
ABLO-SP_5-YellowCheckmark Set challenging goals for the next year.
ABLO-SP_5-YellowCheckmark Take daily action toward your goals – creating a habit over 5 months.
ABLO-SP_5-YellowCheckmark Focus on proven and fundamental strategies that will help you gain recognition for your art.
ABLO-SP_5-YellowCheckmark Have support and accountability as you expand your art career.
ABLO-SP_5-YellowCheckmark Create a personal blueprint that is designed just for you – something you can use daily.

It sounds great, but 5 months?! Really?

I see too many artists gathering information – often unimportant information –
rather than implementing what actually works.

You wouldn’t expect to master a new art form in a few weeks or months.
You certainly can’t expect to master a business in that time.
I have designed the Art Career Success System to give you the
time and space to build that mastery.

I want you to create solid habits that last a lifetime.

A career is different from a business because it’s a lifetime commitment.
You’re not in it to make a quick buck.

Photo of Alane HolsteenI just took down my show and received the largest check in my art career history. I can say with confidence it is 100% a result of what I’ve learned in the Art Career Success System.
The best part is that I know I haven’t learned everything yet. I look forward to putting into practice the skills I have learned as time goes on.

Here are the components of YOUR success system
that you’ll learn and implement in this program:

Assume Control

You are in charge of your destiny and it’s time to step into that role – full throttle. We will kick off our time together by considering:

  • Define what success means to you.
  • Understand the vast difference between goals and expectations.
  • Articulate your goals for the next 12 months.

Tell Your Story

Your art might be untouchable in terms of quality. And, you might have no fear when it comes to sharing it with people. But you must have words to back you up. Here’s what we’ll cover in module 2:

  • Follow my guidance to write a draft of your artist statement.
  • Update your résumé by completing an easy and reusable template.
  • Improve your bio by using stories to differentiate yourself.
  • Hatch a plan to strengthen your résumé and bio.

Seek Venues

The possibilities for showing your art are limited only by your imagination: juried shows, outdoor festivals, restaurants, galleries, museums, and probably a few places I can’t even think of. The same is true for finding venues for teaching: your studio, your friend’s studio, a rented space, art centers, and more. But you need a starting point.

  • Set the criteria you are looking for in a prospective venue.
  • Research venues that are a good fit for your art and ambitions.
  • Create a hierarchy of venues, which you can use to start your climb to the top.

Approach Galleries & Other Venues

In module 3, you researched and prioritized venues. Now it’s time to look at the practical side of approaching those venues.

  • Implement my 3-pronged strategy for attracting galleries.
  • Develop effective email templates for venue inquiries.
  • Create solid proposals for exhibition and teaching venues.

Boost Your Online Presence

The Internet is where many people will first see your art. You have to present it in its best light. At the same time, you need to manage your time and be sure that you’re not wasting precious time online.

  • Examine your website or blog and figure out where you could make small changes to improve its effectiveness.
  • Decide which social media platforms are best for you and your work.
  • Develop a plan for maintaining your online visibility.

Expand Your Network

Your network of relationships is your most valuable asset, so you should be constantly thinking about how to add more people to it.
  • Attract more people to your list on a daily basis.
  • Consider campaigns for building your list. (This strategy is especially effective for teachers.)
  • Collect physical addresses from people on your list.
  • Design a plan for expanding your mailing list this year.

Nurture Your Fans

Once people get on your list, they expect to hear from you. Nurture your fans in a variety of ways.
  • Establish an email rhythm for regular contact and special one-time, important events.
  • Add regular mail to the mix in order to stand out from the crowd.
  • Cultivate the VIPs on your list.
  • Commit to a schedule for nurturing your list on a regular basis.

Engage Your Audience

When you are successful, people expect you to be confident and articulate about your art. I will teach you how to engage others in conversations about your art – techniques that I learned and developed in my previous positions as a museum curator and educator.

  • Introduce yourself as a confident artist.
  • Use questioning strategies to connect people to your art.
  • Program your show – live and online – to engage visitors.

Ensure Profitability

Your art career won’t last long if you’re showing a business loss year after year, yet many artists are either afraid of confronting their financial numbers or don’t know what to look for.

  • Use the step-by-step Income Accelerator to develop a money plan.
  • Schedule your Income Acceleration Power Hours.

Market Creatively

You are an artist and should allow yourself to be as creative as you like with your marketing.

  • Be inspired by real-life examples of artists who are stretching their marketing muscles.
  • Add performance, giveaways, pre-sales, fundraisers, and creative marketing material to your mix.
  • Plan something out-of-the box for your art – something that will help you gain recognition and sell more art.

Navigate Relationships

This is where too many artists falter. Your relationships with gallerists, curators, collectors, and other artists can buoy your career or they can sink you. Successful artists understand how to steer through each situation.

  • Communicate with precision (and get it in writing) in order to save  your relationships.
  • Negotiate and learn to say No.
  • Implement written agreements and contracts.
  • Follow up with leads, opportunities, and sales.
Button #12

 Grow Success: Your System

This is it! We will take all of the hard work you have done to this point and roll it into a working system that gives you a bird’s-eye view of your career.

I outline 10 scenarios that most artists encounter and show you how to use the Art Career Success System to work through each situation.

I’ve been teaching artists how to build successful careers since 2002.

A successful career begins with knowing yourself
and what you want.

And here’s a big secret: the more successful you are in your relationships –
including the one you have with yourself – the more successful you’ll be professionally.

The Art Career Success System provides a blueprint
for staying in touch with your goals
and the people who can you help realize them.

As a result of the Art Career Success System, I feel more confident about presenting myself as an artist. I’ve gained 100 followers on Facebook, am committed to my studio time, have booked two shows, won “best of show”, and have sold 6 paintings!

It’s been a good 5 months! Thank you.

I want you to be dedicated to the long-term commitment of a career.

I want you to embrace the many roles you will play as a successful artist.

What You Get in the Art Career Success System

1 In-Depth Lessons
I personally coach you on each module in a recorded video, available on-demand and ready for you at a time that works with your schedule. I teach you what I have learned in more than fourteen years of helping artists build their careers. You’ll complete assignments and simple worksheets that will be used as building blocks to help you succeed. See the complete schedule – including times.

2 Written Transcripts of All Lessons
We learn differently when we read than when we listen. I want to make sure you know this stuff inside and out, so I’m providing the lessons in written form as well as audio.

3 8 Live Q&A Calls
You have complete access to me for 90 minutes during strategically scheduled calls. See schedule. Ask me anything! Questions are submitted in advance in case you can’t make the live call, and everything is recorded and available to you within 24 hours.

4  Micro Challenges
After a few back-to-back weekly lessons at the beginning, we will eventually settle into lessons every other week. During that time, I will stay in close contact through email and videos. I’ll deliver bite-sized lessons to encourage your daily progress.

5 System Worksheets
The worksheets I’ve created for you will help you customize the lessons’ content for your situation. Each of these completed worksheets will contribute to your personalized success system.

6 Interaction with ACSS Peers
Membership into a private Facebook group with your fellow ACSS members. This is where you can ask questions, celebrate progress, and share resources with one another.

7 Accountability x 2
Students of ACSS will 1) submit weekly progress check-ins and 2) have access to live weekly accountability calls, where you will share your progress.

Join us August 3 for a special presentation
to prepare you for the program: Make Room for Success.

Storytelling expert Sandra Millers Younger gives her tips on finding your signature story.
